Himalayan Studies:

Welcome to the captivating world of Himalayan Studies with “Roam Beyond,” an immersive educational experience that takes you on a journey through the enchanting landscapes of the Himalayan region. Our programs are meticulously crafted to cater to the diverse needs of students and institutions, ranging from ten days to a month, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of the culturally rich and spiritually significant areas of Sikkim, Darjeeling, Bhutan, and the Northeast of India.

At “Roam Beyond,” we pride ourselves on fostering a deep understanding of the Himalayas, encompassing its unique blend of traditions, cultures, and the profound wisdom of Buddhism. We have previously collaborated with esteemed colleges and institutes, both in the United States and around the world which includes Loyola Marymount University in California, Antioch University in Ohio, USA, Castleton College in Vermont, USA, and the Arya Tara Yoga Center in Lerida, Spain. These collaborations has enabled us to offer culturally enriching and academically rigorous programs that delve into the heart of the Himalayan way of life. Some of the activities we arrange are the following:

  1. Homestays:Staying with a local family provides a deep dive into the daily routines, customs, and hospitality of the culture. You’ll have the opportunity to participate in household chores, share meals, and engage in conversations, offering invaluable insights into the family dynamics and social norms.
  2. Art Classes:Participating in art classes, whether it’s painting, pottery, or traditional crafts, allows you to learn about the artistic expressions and aesthetics of the culture firsthand. It’s an excellent way to connect with local artisans, understand their techniques, and appreciate the cultural significance behind their creations.
  3. Language Classes:Learning the local language opens doors to meaningful interactions and deeper understanding. Language classes not only equip you with practical communication skills but also offer insights into the nuances of the culture, such as expressions, idioms, and cultural etiquette.
  4. Trekking:Exploring the natural landscapes and remote regions through trekking or hiking provides a unique perspective on the relationship between people and their environment. You’ll encounter diverse ecosystems, encounter local flora and fauna, and may even stumble upon hidden villages or archaeological sites, gaining a deeper appreciation for the cultural significance of the land.
  5. Apprenticeships:Engaging in apprenticeships or volunteering opportunities allows you to learn traditional skills or contribute to community projects while immersing yourself in the culture. Whether it’s learning traditional farming techniques, craftsmanship, or participating in conservation efforts, apprenticeships foster meaningful connections with local communities and offer a hands-on approach to cultural exchange.

Each of these activities offers a different lens through which to experience and learn about another culture. By actively participating in homestays, art and language classes, trekking, and apprenticeships, you’ll not only gain knowledge but also forge meaningful connections and memories that will last a lifetime.

While our Himalayan Studies programs are primarily designed for high school and undergraduate students, we extend a warm welcome to adults who share a curiosity and passion for unravelling the mysteries of the Himalayan culture. Whether you are a young learner seeking academic enrichment or an adult explorer eager to delve into the Himalayan heritage, “Roam Beyond” invites you to embark on a transformative journey of discovery, enlightenment, and cultural immersion. Join us as we embark on an unforgettable exploration of the Himalayan region, where ancient traditions meet contemporary insights, and where the breath taking landscapes become a canvas for learning, growth, and self-discovery.
