Sikkim Trekking & Travel Services is Sikkim’s oldest travel company. It is registered and recognized by the Government of Sikkim and is a member of the Pacific Asia of Travel Association ( PATA ), The Indian Association of Tour Operators ( IATO ), Travel Agents Association of India ( TAAI ) which are leading travel bodies recognized by the Government of India. Due to our strong roots and history with this region, STTS was created out of passion along with a genuine desire to provide an authentic experience to all travelers.
Its founder/director Yeshi Dorjee and his son Pema Topgyal currently operate STTS. Yeshi Dorjee comes from a family strongly connected with the history and culture of the Sikkim Himalayas. His father, the late Dungzin Rinpoche built the magnificent ‘Zangdopalri’, which is a three-dimensional wooden structure depicting the copper mountain palace of Guru Padmasambhava and today is revered as a national treasure. His Uncle, the late Kechod Rinpoche was the head lama of the royal Pemayangtse monastery and the root teacher of the last King of Sikkim. Yeshi Dorjee has a vast knowledge of the local culture and Buddhist philosophy having graduated from the Nyingma Institute of Higher studies with top honors. Apart from leading tours, Pema is also the On site Director for the Sikkim-India semester program of Loyola Marymount University which is based in Los Angeles, California. When STTS was established, our mission was to offer a wonderful glimpse into the lives and culture of the people in this region. We felt our love and passion for the outdoors including our local knowledge with our unique family background would provide all those traveling to this region an extra ordinary experience.
Over the year STTS has had the pleasure of welcoming travelers of all ages and from allover the world and all walks of life. We organized the very first trek on the Singhalila range when it was first opened by the Government of Sikkim for the Italian Alpine Club in 1999. We have also organized the "Green Lake Trek" in North Sikkim for George Band ( Firs man to climb Kanchendzonga ) and his team. We have found mention in leading travel magazines in the USA, Italy, Japan including the "Lonely Planet. Our love and deep concern for the region manifests in our approach to all our tours and treks. To minimize the impact on our fragile eco system we use kerosene for cooking on all our treks instead of precious wood. To maintain the area's pristine nature all forms of garbage are burnt or carried back from the trek. For our tours, we employ the best available vehicles with experienced drivers along with local knowledgeable guides.
STTS offers a range of trips, which includes treks to all, parts of Sikkim and Darjeeling along with cultural and Buddhist tours to all parts of Sikkim, Bhutan and Northeast India. STTS can also arrange custom private tours to suit special needs and requirements.
